Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).
When someone asks about my most expensive personal purchase, my mind goes straight to my tech collection. And yes, it’s an all-Apple line-up. For me, it’s more than just individual gadgets – it’s about how these devices come together to create a seamless experience. My iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch, iMac, and even the AirPods aren’t just gadgets; they’re tools that make life a little simpler. Apple may not be perfect, but they’ve certainly mastered the art of making things work smoothly together.
Why Apple? The appeal lies in consistency. Apple doesn’t change directions on a whim or push half-baked ideas onto users. Sure, they’re not immune to the occasional misstep, but when compared to other brands, Apple has a clear vision. Samsung, a close competitor, sometimes brings out interesting ideas but releases so many that some products barely last a year before they’re discontinued. It can feel wasteful, both financially and in terms of time investment. You want a device that’s going to stand the test of time – or at least the next three to five years, if not more.
With Apple, there’s a sense of reliability. Most of these devices can last up to 10 years if you treat them well. I mean, that’s something you can’t say for many tech brands today. And yes, sometimes it’s frustrating that Apple’s updates feel incremental, but it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make. I’d rather they improve steadily than release experimental features only to pull them a year later. We invest hard-earned money into these devices, especially in a time when every purchase counts a little more due to the rising cost of living.
So, yes, if you ask me about my priciest personal purchases, it’s my tech, hands down – mostly Apple gear. The phone, laptop, watch, iMac, headphones – I know, I know, I’m sounding like a fanboy. But hey, it just works better together, doesn’t it? And that, in my book, is worth every penny.
