Happiness Starts With Gratitude

When are you most happy?

When am I most happy? Honestly, I’ve thought about this a lot, and it always brings me back to one thing, my connection with Allah. Everything in life, the good and the not-so-good, flows from Him. It’s when I take a moment to reflect, to pray, or to simply sit quietly and acknowledge His blessings, that I feel truly at peace.

There’s nothing quite like standing in prayer, knowing that I’m speaking directly to my Creator. It’s humbling, grounding, and incredibly freeing. In those moments, all the worries of the world seem to fade away, and I’m reminded that no matter what’s happening, Allah’s plan is perfect. That knowledge brings a kind of happiness nothing else can match.

After that, it’s my family that fills my heart. The sound of my kids laughing, the chaos of us all talking over each other at dinner, or even just sitting in the same room quietly—those moments mean everything to me. I often think about how Allah entrusted me with them, and despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this blessing for anything. It’s in those little, everyday moments that I find real joy.

I’m also at my happiest when I’m creating—whether it’s writing, taking photos, or working on something for my blog. For me, writing is like untangling the knots in my mind and heart. It helps me process my thoughts and express them in a way that I hope connects with others. Photography is similar. There’s something fulfilling about capturing a moment or a feeling and sharing it. It’s like saying, “Look at this; isn’t life beautiful?”

And then there are the quieter moments, the simple ones that don’t seem like much but carry so much peace. A walk with my camera, hearing the rain on the windows, or even sitting with a good cup of tea. Those moments remind me of the beauty in the small things. They’re Allah’s way of showing us that joy doesn’t have to be loud or grand—it can be found in the stillness too.

So, when am I most happy? It’s when I pause and realise what I already have, my faith, my family, and the chance to create and reflect. Happiness isn’t some far-off thing to chase; it’s right here, in the moments we live every day.
