Five Things I’m Proud to Be Good At

Share five things you’re good at.

When asked to reflect on the things I’m good at and after some thought, the five things that I feel define my strengths are as follows;

1. Connecting with People

Whether it’s a quick chat with a stranger or a deep conversation with a loved one, I’ve always found it easy to connect with people. Perhaps it’s my introverted heart balanced by a loud and lively streak when the occasion calls for it. I enjoy making others feel comfortable, sharing a laugh, or offering a listening ear. It’s not just about talking; it’s about understanding and being present.

2. Writing with Purpose

From blog posts to poems, storytelling has always been my outlet. Writing helps me make sense of the chaos in my head, organise my thoughts, and share perspectives in ways I hope resonate with others. Whether it’s an article on societal issues, a heartfelt story, or even an abstract idea, I strive to write in a way that feels authentic and thought-provoking. My website, The Narratives, is my little corner of the internet where I let this creative energy flow.

3. Cooking with Heart

I didn’t always think I’d be much of a cook, but over time, it’s become one of my most treasured skills. I’ve learned to balance flavours, experiment with spices, and bring a bit of love into every dish. Cooking for family, especially traditional Bangladeshi dishes, is my way of connecting with my roots while creating something that brings everyone together at the table. Of course, there have been the odd disasters (we won’t talk about the turkey incident), but that’s how we learn!

4. Problem-Solving Under Pressure

This one probably comes from years of navigating life’s challenges. I’ve had my fair share of curveballs, but I’ve learned to approach problems with logic, a clear mind, and a bit of patience (though I’m still working on the patience part!). Whether it’s at work, helping others with practical matters, or figuring out how to get something done when all odds are against me, I pride myself on staying calm and finding solutions.

5. Being a Dad

Of all the things I’m good at, this one is the one I strive for. Fatherhood is both the toughest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had. It’s not about being perfect but about being present—teaching, learning, guiding, and sometimes just sitting back and watching my children grow into who they’re meant to be. I’ve had moments of doubt, frustration, and even heartbreak, but nothing compares to the pride I feel when I see them achieve their milestones, big or small.

Final Thoughts

None of these skills came easily or overnight—they’ve been shaped by experiences, both good and bad, and a lot of reflection. What I’ve realised is that being good at something isn’t just about talent. It’s about persistence, effort, and the willingness to grow, to evolve.

So, those are my five things. I’d love to hear what you think or what you’re good at—share them with me in the comments!
