Thinkers, Doers, and Dreamers Who Inspire Change

Who are your current most favorite people?

As someone who enjoys reflecting on the world and its complexities, it’s an interesting challenge to pinpoint my current favourite influential people—particularly if we set aside the familiar comforts of family, friends, and colleagues. Instead, let’s venture into the broader sphere of individuals who influence and inspire through their actions, ideas, and conviction. Here’s my list of four remarkable people who, in one way or another, embody values I deeply resonate with: justice, social progress, and a commitment to making the world better.

1. Gary Stevenson

Gary Stevenson is, without question, one of the brightest minds speaking truth to power today. A former London City trader, he’s swapped the world of profit for purpose, using his expertise to shine a light on social inequality and economic injustice. His unique insight into the financial systems that shape our lives has led him to become a vital voice for change. In a time when economic literacy often seems reserved for the few, Gary’s ability to break down complex issues and connect them to everyday struggles is invaluable. It’s people like him who should be in positions of influence within government—individuals who truly understand the structural problems and have the courage to address them.

2. Professor Muhammad Yunus

Few figures radiate as much integrity and moral strength as Professor Muhammad Yunus, the interim Chief Advisor in Bangladesh. Known worldwide as the “Banker to the Poor” for his pioneering work in microfinance, Yunus now faces an even greater challenge: bringing order to a nation grappling with anarchy and despair. His work in trying to rebuild the fractured heart of Bangladesh—especially after the tragic loss of so many young voices who stood up for their future—is nothing short of heroic. His leadership reminds me that true power lies not in dominance but in service and vision. He’s a beacon of hope for a country in need of healing.

3. Simon Squibb

Simon Squibb is someone whose work instantly draws me in. As a businessman and the founder of HelpBnk.com, Simon spends his time speaking to ordinary people, helping them turn their dreams into reality. What I admire most about him is his approach: not just giving handouts but providing the education, tools, and encouragement needed to succeed. His ethos aligns with something I believe deeply—that the best way to uplift people is to empower them. Simon’s energy and passion for helping others resonate with me on a personal level. We need more people like him who see potential where others see obstacles.

4. Ash Sarkar

Here’s where things might get a teeny bit controversial. Ash Sarkar of Novara Media might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me, she’s a breath of fresh air. A highly educated and articulate thinker, Ash speaks with conviction about the issues she cares about, from social justice to environmental concerns. Whether you agree with her or not, there’s no denying her ability to command attention and provoke thought. She challenges the status quo in ways that I find both engaging and necessary. To me, her fearlessness and eloquence are qualities that make her stand out in a sea of noise.

Why These People?

You might have noticed a theme here. These are individuals who align with my own values—people who speak up for justice, who care about societal progress, and who understand that the world we live in doesn’t have to be this way. They remind me that change, while often slow and painful, is possible when bright minds and brave hearts refuse to accept the status quo.

It’s easy to feel disillusioned in today’s world. Yet, when I look at figures like Gary Stevenson, Professor Yunus, Simon Squibb, and Ash Sarkar, I see reason to hope. They inspire me to keep thinking critically, to stay engaged, and to believe in the power of ideas to transform lives.

Who are your current favourites? Do you share mine, or do you have others you’d like to add to the list? Let me know—after all, inspiration is something worth sharing.
