December Layers or August Simplicity

What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

When I was younger, December was hands down my favourite month of the year. There was something magical about the crisp chill in the air, the way it sharpened your senses and made you appreciate every cosy layer of clothing. Winter brought out the best of fashion too. Coats, scarves, boots—everything seemed a bit more polished and exciting. I used to love layering my outfits, choosing each piece carefully to reflect both my mood and the season. December made dressing up feel like an art form.

But as I’ve grown older, my perspective has shifted. These days, August takes the top spot. It’s not about fashion anymore, but about family and the slower pace of summer. August means time off with the children, when we can just relax and enjoy each other’s company. There’s something special about those casual, unhurried days where plans are loose, and you can be spontaneous.

The clothes are simpler too—light, breezy, and effortless. It’s the complete opposite of December’s meticulous layering. I’m not really into all the dressing up anymore; comfort and practicality now rule over style.

That said, the heat can be a challenge. My thyroid illness means regulating temperature isn’t as straightforward for me as it is for others. While some might revel in the summer sun, I find myself seeking shade and appreciating a good breeze. It’s not always easy, but I’ve learned to adapt, focusing instead on the joys of the season—family time, laughter, and those little moments that make it all worthwhile.

So, favourite month? It depends on which version of me you ask. The younger me would never give up December, but the older me is all about the simplicity of August. Seasons change, and so do we, but each month brings its own unique charm—and that’s something worth celebrating.
