What book are you reading right now?
If you asked me what book I’m reading right now, I’d have to admit with a heavy heart—I’m not. It’s not for lack of interest; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. My love for reading runs deep, rooted in a fascination with stories, ideas, and the sheer joy of turning pages. But like so many things in life, it’s fallen victim to the unrelenting demands of time.
My shelves are full of books waiting patiently to be picked up. Some have been there for years, others are newer additions, but all of them share one thing in common—they’ve yet to be read. I always think, “One day, I’ll get to you,” but with work, family, and everything else that fills my days, that “one day” keeps getting postponed.
The love I have for reading never wanes, though. In fact, it grows stronger with every title I add to the list. I often dream of a future where my days are less frantic and more forgiving. Maybe retirement will bring that elusive luxury of time, and I’ll finally be able to work my way through the ever-growing list of titles that sit patiently on my shelves. Until then, the list grows.
Speaking of new additions, there’s one book I’m planning to pick up soon: Orbital by Samantha Harvey. The premise has piqued my curiosity, and I’ve already earmarked it as the next one to join my collection. Another intriguing title on my radar is The Trading Game by Gary Stevenson—a book that promises insight into the world of economics and society, topics that always get me thinking.
For now, though, reading has taken a backseat to writing. In my spare moments, I’ve been channelling my love for words into my blog, crafting stories, exploring ideas, and doing a fair bit of research. It’s a different kind of escape, but one that’s equally fulfilling.
Books are a timeless treasure, though, aren’t they? They wait for us, undisturbed and unchanging, ready to welcome us back whenever we’re ready. My bookshelves remind me of that every day. One day, I’ll have the time to read them all. For now, I’ll keep adding to the list and dreaming of the moments when I can finally turn those pages.
