The Principles That Guide My Life

What principles define how you live?

When I sit down and think about the things that shape how I live, it’s a bit like trying to find order in chaos. Life throws all sorts at you, but there are a few principles that I try to hang on to, even when things get messy.

First off, integrity is big for me. I grew up seeing the importance of being straight with people, even when it’s hard. It doesn’t matter whether it’s at work or with my family—being honest is something I can’t let go of. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s easier to tell people what they want to hear, but I’ve learned that if I do that, it doesn’t sit right with me. It’s about being able to sleep at night, knowing I did my best to be real with myself and others.

Then there’s responsibility. Coming from a big family, it’s always been drilled into me. I’ve been working since I was 14, helping out where I can. It’s not just about me, but about the people I care for—whether it’s my wife, kids, or even the people at work. Responsibility means stepping up, even when you’re tired, even when life gets in the way.

Kindness is another thing. Look, the world is harsh enough as it is, and I try to be a bit of warmth in all that cold. It’s not that I’m perfect at it, but I always try to remember how good it feels when someone shows me kindness. So, I do my best to pass it on. Even in small ways—a smile, a chat, or just lending an ear. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ showed us that kindness can change hearts, and I try to keep that in mind.

Now, patience—I’ll admit, this one’s a work in progress. I can be quick to react, but I’m learning that sometimes, sitting back and giving things time to play out is the wiser move. Patience is like a muscle. You’ve got to keep working at it. Whether it’s with family, work, or just everyday life, I try to hold back and take things as they come.

Lastly, there’s faith—the glue that holds it all together. No matter how many times life knocks me down, I hold on to the belief that everything happens for a reason, and it’s all part of Allah’s plan. That belief keeps me grounded. I know that I can only do my best and the rest is up to Him. It brings a sense of peace, even in the hardest of times.

Those are the principles that guide me, keep me grounded, and help me face whatever comes my way. They’re not fancy, but they’re real, and that’s enough for me.
